I don't go to concerts very often, but every time I do, I remember why people love them.
There's just something about hearing your favorite songs played live that no pair of earbuds can ever match. You know every word... at least until the lead singer decides to let the crowd sing. Then suddenly everyone around you becomes the "featured vocalist." Some sound amazing. Others... well... let's just say they should stick to singing in the shower.
I usually don't care where the seats are. I'm not trying to catch a guitar pick or make eye contact with the drummer. I'm just there to enjoy the music, have a good time, and forget about work for a few hours.
The funny part is getting there. You sit in traffic with thousands of people who all had the exact same idea. Then you pay enough for a hot dog and drink that you start wondering if the band is accepting applications for roadies.
Once the lights go down, though, none of that matters.
The bass starts thumping, the crowd cheers, and for the next couple of hours, everyone is singing the same songs and forgetting about bills, deadlines, and whatever nonsense was waiting for them back home.
I don't need to go to concerts every weekend. Once in a while is enough to remind me that music has a way of bringing complete strangers together. It doesn't matter if you're 21 or 71. If your favorite song starts playing, you're probably singing along like nobody's watching.
Well... they are watching. They just don't care because they're doing the exact same thing.
So if your favorite band comes to town and you've been thinking about going, do it. Life gives you plenty of reasons to stay home. Every now and then it's worth grabbing a ticket, singing a little too loud, and making memories that last a lot longer than the ringing in your ears.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll spend the next three days saying, "What?" every time someone talks to me. Totally worth it.
